Its amazing to see so many types of tomatoes. They come in clolor going from, black, , orange, pink, yellow, white.etc Some time when you see a green tomatoes , the first thing that cross your mind , is that its not ripe.but green striped tomatoes like zebra is just green. They are very spicy and mid flavour.

If you are looking for those traditional fried green tomatoes, then you will probably want to stick with using unripened fruit. This is simply because tomatoes that are ripe will not stand up to the heat from the skillet. You can obtain green tomato seeds from a variety of different seed companies. You can simply do a search online and it will bring up countless numbers of places where the seeds can be purchased. In many cases, it is hard to find green tomatoes seedlings in the market. Therefore, you best bet is to start growing them from your own seeds. After you have received your seeds, you will want to organize an indoor space for the seedbed.

Find out when your last expected frost date is. You want to plant your seeds in a good quality sterile seed growing mix at least 6 to 8 weeks before that date. Go through your seeds and separate them. Sometimes they stick together during packing. Plant more seeds than you think you'll need. Not all the seeds will germinate, and you can always give some seedlings away to friends and family.

Green tomato seeds grow just like any other tomato seeds. Plant them about " deep in either a seed flat or in small pots. Water them lightly. You'll want to keep them moist but not wet. You may find a mister works well. Just give them a misting whenever they need it. If you cover the pots with a plastic hood or some plastic wrap, it will help keep the moisture in. Tomato seeds germinate best if the soil is at 75 F to 90 F. If you start a lot of plants from seed, you may want to invest in a heating mat made for germinating seeds.

Once the seeds have sprouted, you'll want them to have a slightly cooler temperature. Keeping the temperature between 60 F and 70 F and giving the seedlings plenty of light will help keep them from getting leggy. South-facing windows are a favorite spot for tomato plants. If you don't have an available window, you may want to put them under a full-spectrum fluorescent light set a few inches above the pots.

After the plant has sprouted a second or third set of true leaves, which resembles actual tomato leaves, you will need to transplant them in a pot that is approximately 4". This way, the plants will have plenty of room to grow.

Before the green tomato seeds are transplanted outside. they need to be harden. You can obtain this by taking them outside for some hours during day and then taking them back inside. As days goes by ,you can keep adding how long they stay outside. In no time they will be used to the outside life .

Once the tomatoes are used to the temperatures outside, plant them in the garden. Be sure to put tomato cages or other supports around the plants if they are a variety that grows tall.
