Porn Film Production Postponed for Syphilis

Adult film industry trade associations announced the suspension of production of adult films after reports of several cases of syphilis among pornographic film actors.

According to representatives of the coalition freedom of speech, the pornographic film actors could return to work within 10 days after they take antibiotics. Doctors have asked them to take antibiotics as a precaution.

Syphilis is a very complex disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. The disease is transmitted through sexual contact. Bacteria will enter the body through cuts or abrasions on the skin or mucous membranes. This disease can also be transmitted through infected blood, also from a pregnant mother to her fetus.

Usually antibiotics can overcome syphilis in first and second line. People infected with syphilis banned from sex until at least through antibiotic treatment and blood tests done twice to indicate that the infection is not there anymore.

Outbreak of syphilis among adult film actors adds to pressure on the producers to require every adult film performers use condoms. Formerly already coming under pressure to use condoms to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS.

According to Dr. Jonathan Fielding, director of the Los Angeles City Health Department, the investigation by a team of doctors showed more cases of syphilis is upon actors and their spouses.

"Not surprisingly, found many cases of sexually transmitted infections among porn movie players because they often do not use protection and have sex with multiple partners," said Fielding.

The AIDS Healtcare Foundation also criticized the decision to give antibiotics for adult film actors and instead of looking for the trigger. "They only use antibiotics as a blanket to cover up something else," said Michael Weinstein, President of AIDS Healthcare.
