Enchanting Edinburgh

Combining a mixture of the traditional and the cosmopolitan, Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, contains such a variety of attractions that there has to be something to do for every person who visits this charming and appealing city. And millions do every year, because the city is one of the biggest tourist attractions not just in the United Kingdom, but in all of Western Europe.

Located on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth in the Lothian's, Edinburgh has a truly massive murky past, stretching back several thousand years and with many historical interests to boot. The charm and architecture of Edinburgh is apparent whenever one visits. From the ancient character of the old town's narrow cobbled streets to the grid shaped new town. Edinburgh has made such a significant architectural impression on the world that several thousand buildings are now historically registered

The focal point of the old town of Edinburgh is the Royal Mile containing such famous and historical buildings as St Giles Cathedral, the Scottish Law Courts, the Royal Museum pf Scotland among others. Looking down over the "old town" is the world famous Edinburgh Castle looking down over all of the city center, and on all that is both ancient and modern in Edinburgh. Situated in the "old town" is another important historical landmark, Arthur's Seat in the Palace of Holyrood, an ancient seat of Scottish kings.

It need not be forgotten, Edinburgh is a city of remarkable contrasts. It has been renowned for its tremendous array of arts and culture. In the month of August each year, the city hosts the world famous International Festival, including the Festival Fringe and Tattoo. The city during this time is invaded by many visitors who swell the present population twice over. Taking advantage of a hire can go some way to discovering all the other attractions in Edinburgh area

Edinburgh is a place that is always buzzing with entertainment, and it's hard to keep up, especially during its International Festival. The Military Tattoo is the main draw, where many army pipe bands from all over the world converge to display their skills on the dramatic backdrop of the castle esplanade. The experience of it all will guarantee to leave a lasting impression on anyone, with the formation of the pipe bands and the skirl of the bagpipes over the castle ramparts.

Whilst the International Festival is running, there is also the Fringe, where many performing artists from around the world display their fantastic abilities. The International Film Festival is also performed alongside the Fringe, which is renowned as one of the biggest for performing arts. Hiring a car can be an economical means of getting around Edinburgh and its environs. Many firms offer great deals on inclusive insurance, excess, miles, CDW and personal protection insurance. In order to hire a car in the UK, it is absolutely necessary to have a full driving licence (plastic card and the paper copy) as well as a credit card showing the driver's name alongside a passport. Driving in Edinburgh city centre is best to be avoided due to traffic constraints and lack of parking space an issue
