Calendula (Calendula officinalis), also known as pot marigold, pot calendula, Holligold, Garden Marigold, Gold-Bloom, Marigold, Marybud, and Zergul, has a beautiful orange or yellow flower. The plant is native to the Mediterranean area.
Calendula's name comes from the word calendar because it blooms every new moon. "Marigold" refers to the Virgin Mary. The flower is often used in Catholic events that honor her. When you think of marigold, don't think of the annual flowers from your garden. That is probably either French marigold or African marigold and is a totally different species.
For those who like the technical facts, calendula contains these medicinal ingredients: calendulin, beta-carotene and other carotenoids, isoquercitrin, narcissin, rutin, amyrin, lupeol, sterols, and volatile oils. The flowers also contain complex polysaccharides with properties that stimulate immunity.
Calendula has both internal and external benefits. Internally, calendula is especially beneficial in treating gastrointestinal disorders. It protects the lining of the intestines and stomach by weakening the causes of inflammation and swelling, and by limiting the effects of the bacteria associated with gastritis, stomach cancer, and peptic ulcers. Calendula has been effective to sooth stomach ulcers and inflammation. It also fights fever, boils, abscesses, and recurrent vomiting.
Calendula's orange petals contain the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory secrets that make it effective externally. These two A's have put calendula into the forefront of treatment for various infections. For example, some find it more effective in treating ear infections than leading prescription drugs. Calendula tea makes a great eye wash for those suffering from chronic conjunctivitis (pink eye). As an ointment, it attacks the bacteria causing swelling and thus will soothe inflammation. It is also used to treat vaginal itching caused by menopausal tissue changes, insect bites, eczema, diaper rash, acne, hemorrhoids, burns, scalds, and sunburn.
By using this herb on infections, healing is more pain-free, better, and faster when calendula is used. Cosmetic creams containing calendula decrease the appearance of wrinkles and hydrate skin. Gargling with calendula water or tea has helped ease the pain of a sore throat.
In addition, calendula is used to treat capillary engorgement, chronic ulcers, varicose veins, and congestion. Calendula flowers are edible, and may be added to salads cereals, rice, and soups to add flavor and color. The petals can also be dried for use in teas as mentioned above.
You may purchase or prepare calendula as a cream, tea, tincture, infusion, compress, or wash. The recipe for making calendula tea is to simply pour about a cup of boiling water over 1-2 teaspoons of calendula flowers and let it sit for 15 minutes. You can take up to three cups of calendula tea per day. The tincture is made by soaking a cup of flowers in .5 quarts of rectified alcohol for five to six weeks. Five to fifteen drops may be taken with water or tea three times a day. The salve is made by boiling one ounce of dried flowers or leaves in one ounce of lard.
Calendula is a very safe herb but a few cautions are in order. Be especially sure wounds are clean before applying calendula. If you have ragweed allergy, be cautious as some have also experienced allergic reactions to calendula. The alcohol in the calendula tincture will burn the raw tissue of wounds. It would be better to use a different form of the herb.

Vacation is the one thing that brings the most pleasure to most people. Unfortunately, not everyone can take a vacation when they need to nor can they take a vacation of their choosing when they do have the time. So, I'll give you some quick tips on how to decompress.
Don't try to eliminate all your stress at once, you didn't acquire it all at once. Make gradual changes over time. Your habits will start to change and you will see stress relief throught the new strategies you pick up.
There are a number of different ways stress can be relieved.
One method of relieving stress is with puzzles. They literally force your mind to change it's focus and move from what is causing you stress. Puzzles are available in all sizes and for all ages.
Another good option is gardening. Nothing quite as nice as getting your hands in the earth. Of course, I use gloves to avoid the dirt under the nails. Do something that requires some physical exertion like hacking through the briars, picking berries.
Nature offers beautiful things for us to see everyday, but most of the time we are too busy to even notice. Nature is an excellent way to relieve stress. There are several scenes and facets of nature that are highly relaxing, from the sound of a running brook to the crashing of the waves on the rocks to a quiet walk in the woods.

Try a hobby. It does not have to be expensive. it can be as simple as replanting a 99 cent cacti into a nicer pot and watching it shoot up. They grow fast and are easy to grow. But, you should find something that can take your mind off the stress and find some relief.

Exercise can heal your mind as it shapes your body. One good method for stress relief is breathing deeply and exercise can get you doing just that. Go ahead and release all the tension and frustration and feel better when you are done.
With exercise, you can get a boost of self-confidence that goes with knowing that you're the best that you can be.
I know good humor can be hard to find, but laughter is some of the best medicine. It helps you to relax, reduces your anxiety as you realize things are not as bad as you may have allowed them to become. Your body physiologically improves with laughter.
Try shooting. Photography, that is! You'll be amazed at the shots you can catch and if you invest in some software to crop and fix the photos, you'll become the family pro. The nice thing about digital cameras is you only have to print what you want. Very relaxing and a boost of self confidence.

Nature offers beautiful things for us to see everyday, but most of the time we are too busy to even notice. Nature is an excellent way to relieve stress. There are several scenes and facets of nature that are highly relaxing, from the sound of a running brook to the crashing of the waves on the rocks to a quiet walk in the woods.
How hard would it be for you to add one simple pleasure to your daily routine?
Try a hobby. It does not have to be expensive. it can be as simple as replanting a 99 cent cacti into a nicer pot and watching it shoot up. They grow fast and are easy to grow. But, you should find something that can take your mind off the stress and find some relief.

Exercise can heal your mind as it shapes your body. One good method for stress relief is breathing deeply and exercise can get you doing just that. Go ahead and release all the tension and frustration and feel better when you are done.
With exercise, you can get a boost of self-confidence that goes with knowing that you're the best that you can be.
I know good humor can be hard to find, but laughter is some of the best medicine. It helps you to relax, reduces your anxiety as you realize things are not as bad as you may have allowed them to become. Your body physiologically improves with laughter.
Try shooting. Photography, that is! You'll be amazed at the shots you can catch and if you invest in some software to crop and fix the photos, you'll become the family pro. The nice thing about digital cameras is you only have to print what you want. Very relaxing and a boost of self confidence.
Whatever you eventually choose as your preferred stress relief tip, remember to always find time to do it. Don't get so busy you don't take time for yourself.

It seems to me, that although the new gadgets were supposed to make life easier, they just don't seem to. In the end they seem to make us busier, and our lives even more complicated. Is there a way out? What can you do?
Lots,.... you can do anything you want. All it takes is deciding to do the work. Imagine that your life is like being adrift on the ocean. First you need to survive, so your usually checking out the horizon for whatever may be there, to see if it can bring some benefit to your situation. The days come and go, and sometimes you find something great ,other times there isn't much to see, but you always find what you need. That for many people is life,.. drifting around hoping for good things to come their way. To me, that's literally gambling with your life, and I assure you there is a much better way than just drifting and hoping.
First of all you have oars. You can use your own strength to move in any direction you want. This is a lot of work, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Then there is the winds, and once you know how to harness the power of the wind, you can go anywhere you want, whenever you want, without anymore effort than overseeing the direction your heading. This metaphor has some very obvious links to people in the world we know. First, what do we call someone without direction? We say they are "drifting". They are just floating along, often not even sure if they're looking for anything in particular. Then we all know (or are) people that work all the time. They just sleep and work ,and of course they get a lot done. Sometimes they're able to do amazing things. Of course when all you do is sleep and work, then it doesn't leave much time for relaxing, or pursuing ones heartfelt desires.
Finally there are some people who've got the winds of the world under control, and it's they, who can decide to the letter, what they want to spend their time doing. Whats the difference? In a word it's "choices". The most important choice then, is.... what are your priorities?. What holds the most value for you in your life, and what are you willing to do to get out of life what you want? All these choices are made by everyone, everyday There is no escape, because even if we always do what we've always done, that in itself is a choice. Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to think the path of least resistance is to go with the flow, and not take control. This is, at best, a shortsighted method of doing things.
You see, doing only what is safest for you in the moment, holds no promises for the future. It's like the old story of the squirrel and the rabbit. Which takes place over one summer. It talks of how the rabbit is always indulging momentary desires while the squirrel works at storing food. In the end when winter comes the squirrel is compassionate and saves the rabbit from starvation. We don't usually have someone to bail us out and so need to make sure we prepare for whats coming ahead of time. If you were to ask virtually anybody if they'd be willing to spend 5 years working hard in order to comfortably retire for the remainder of their lives afterwords, most would happily say," yes!". Then why more people don't do just that I don't really understand. It can be done, and I think the answer is, most people don't realize just how easy it is.
One of the things that really keeps me going is knowing that most of the the millionaires who have come out of the world of home business and life empowerment really are rags to riches stories. Most do not come from wealthy or royal families. Most are working class people and come from middle class families. Others have been downright poor and still managed to succeed. Eckhart Tolle, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Napoleon Hill,... all of these people made themselves. They may have learned from others, as we all should, do but they found how to take control in their own way, and it does what it always does it gave them all they could want... and more.
I am on that path, and am honored to be sharing it with so many great people. Boy have computers come a long way. I can still remember my first computer, with the 12" bulky monitor, and the huge boxy computer frame, with the external floppy disk. However, here in 2008 things are different.
Now may be the time to move on towards an LCD monitor. The new LCD screens take up less space on your desk while still providing a larger visible space, and are now cheaper than ever.
First off, the new LCD monitors take up a lot less space than a normal monitor. While still having the same viewable area, they are about 10-20% as deep as older CRT monitors. Giving you a lot more desk space without the huge hog of a monitor.
Second, LCD monitors have drastically dropped in price. They are much cheaper than they ever have been before. You can routinely find 19 inch LCD monitors for sale for under $200. Just a few years ago, LCD monitors were double to triple the price of a normal CRT monitor. These prices have equalized just in the last year or two.
Third, the screen sizes are increasing. With older CRT monitors 19 inch monitors were absolutely HUGE, they weighed almost 100 lbs and took up a ton of space. Now, it's not uncommon to have LCD monitors 22-27 inches, and even increasingly two monitor setups.
Fourth, the quality is there like never before. 10 years ago when LCD monitors first started coming out, they were slower than normal monitors. The monitor would get really blurry during movies, or any graphic intensive action. Now, they have much faster response times and the quality of the picture is much better than it ever has been before.
Fifth, the newer models of computers and graphic cards only have digital outputs which no longer support older CRT monitors. Because of this increasing trend, CRT monitors are being eliminated from the market, and no longer supported.
These five reasons should give you plenty of ammunition to help you with your choice to upgrade to an LCD monitor. It makes more sense now than ever to upgrade and move to this new technology. As a kinesiologist who uses natural remedies to help women get pregnant, I always recommend you use some form of fertility calculator to short-cut the time it takes you to get pregnant. They're actually not very difficult to use and at the end of this article, I'll show you a way to calculate your most fertile days for free.
Many women have used fertility calculators when finding it difficult to conceive and have been successful! Believe it or not, a woman can only conceive 12-24 hours out of the month and usually the problem is simply bad timing.
So, how do you use a fertility calculator to get pregnant? Whether or not you decide to do it yourself with a calendar or use software available online, you will still need to know some very important dates and numbers. Most fertility calculators online ask you 2-3 questions and these questions are straight forward they must be accurate to calculate ovulation correctly.
The questions are: first day of your last period, days in your cycle and average luteal phase.
Now, the way you get these numbers is quite simple. Get a calendar and write down the first day of your last two periods. Okay, start counting days from the first day of your last period until the day before your most recent period; this is the number of days in your cycle. This number can be anywhere from 20-45 days, with 28 days being the average.
Figuring out your luteal phase can be a little tricky. Most women have never heard of a luteal phase, let alone know when it occurs. If you don't know this at first it is okay, a good rule of thumb is 14 days. The luteal phase is the time between ovulation and the beginning of your next period; usually lasting 10-16 days with 14 being the average.
The good news is there are not many sites that ask for this information; most fertility calculators only ask for the first day of your last period and the amount of days in your cycle.
Some people prefer to use a pen and paper to work out when they're ovulating. If this is you, and you're looking at your journal dates, you can count backward 14 days from the time your next period is going to start, and this will be your approximate ovulation date. This is not an exact science, so assume you might be fertile 2 days before and 2 days after that approximate ovulation date.
If you want to incorporate the luteal phase in your calculation, then monitor the daily changes in your cervical mucus as well as your BBT. These two basic pieces of information can really help the accuracy of your fertility calculation.
This is just the tip of the iceberg in increasing your chances to conceive. There's so much information I want to share with you, but there isn't enough space on this article! You can combine the use of your fertility calculator with other natural fertility techniques, so you can get pregnant in the shortest time possible.
